Wedding Lighting

A wedding is a special occasion in anybody’s life. It is up to you to make the best of it. You can make the best out of your wedding by including your own creative ideas in lighting, gifting, dressing, and any other related activities. Wedding lighting is one thing where you can pay more attention. A whole space or a wedding venue can look magical with the right lighting. You can transform the ambience by adding candles, lanterns, colored lights or colored bulbs; all this adds warmth to the ambience.

Hire a professional

It is better to take the help of a lighting designer. A professional will first check the venue and suggest d├ęcor ideas that are in sync with the space and the rest of your wedding designs. Your designer will ensure you have a plan and that it includes programs to transition moods over the course of the evening seamlessly. The designer will also work in tandem with others like your florist, photographer to set the best lighting. You can also suggest your own ideas to the designer and see if they can be implemented.

Use combination treatments

Adhering to a single treatment may not be a good idea. Using combination treatments is better. Decide what kind of light you want to light up the venue. Do you want to use pin spot lighting, wherein a single beam of light focuses on an object or a centerpiece. Do you want to use gobos? Gobos are circular stencils used to project a design in light. Do you prefer LED lights as they don’t consume much electricity? You also need to consider other factors like accessories. Do you want candles? Where and how should you place them?

Play with color

Color is necessary to make an ambience look awesome. Everybody looks good in soft rose light. Similarly other shades like amber and magenta flatter most skin tones. Avoid green as it will not suit anybody’s skin tone. So you use all colors except green.

Include the exterior part of your venue

Does your wedding venue have a courtyard where guests will be walking around? Look around the venue and see what needs to be adorned. Can you hang lights on a winding tree? Can you decorate stairs with streamers? For open spaces, you can use lanterns, glass orbs filled with candles or globe lights. The trick is to make your space look visually appealing without going overboard. It is a good idea to make your venue as cozy as possible so that your guests feel at home even after dark.

The ABC’s of Event Lighting

The visual senses are perhaps the strongest in the human experience. As such, it is no surprise that powerful lighting elicits powerful emotional responses. Because you cannot touch or feel it, people often do not understand or comprehend why they should make sure lighting is a key component to their event. Lighting is the single most powerful element in transforming a space from drab to amazing. A good lighting provider examines the complete experience and design lighting for every theme. They usually do this based on the client’s goals for the event. Party lighting is different than wedding lighting, which is different than themed prop lighting. It all depends on what kind of effect you want to create with the lighting.

The largest component of creating great wedding lighting, or any other Event Lighting, is to turn down the ambient lighting of the event space to 20 to 30% of its normal luminosity. A dark room, then allows a pallet for the lighting designer. Particularly, if there are lighter walls for uplights. Each individual element can then be lit up and your event becomes romantic, exciting, and dynamic. Every item you brought to it also gets noticed. The Bar will be aglow in a blue huge for instance. The buffet may be washed in a warm glow. If it is a wedding, the cake will be a shimmering star of the event, and everyone will see the well lit wedding gift table. If it is a corporate event, any item of focus will also be showcased.

By dimming down the main lighting, you will have a greater overall impact on the areas you are highlighting. The colors will be more saturated, and the items you want to highlight will show up while some of the less attractive elements will be hidden.

Dynamic and well placed event lighting will make or break your event. However, remember to set aside a decent budget for the event lighting. Labor is the number one cost in Event Lighting. In terms of other costs to be aware of, you should look carefully at the venue’s power availability before designing your lighting. If your lighting requests are too grand, the venue may not have power to support it, in which case you can either reduce your lighting load on the circuits or bring in a generator. You can rent a whisper quiet generator for around $800 per day for a 25kw, which is a good number to have if lighting a larger ballroom and using a fair amount of power. Other concerns are load in and out times. It is easy to not consider the intense labor involved in lighting. Usually, a request for 6 hours to load in, and a minimum of 2 hours to load out is made. If you are willing to pay a premium, additional staff may always be hired for a faster load in. Additionally, if you limit your lighting fixtures, you can get lighting done in a faster set up time.

How to Select the Right Party Lights for an Event

Never underestimate the power of party lighting because with the right party lights, you might not need a lot of other decoration to go with it at all. For instance, wedding lighting is given the utmost importance because it sets the mood for an intimate occasion. Great lighting can definitely make or break the mood for an event and this is the reason why the people who often overlook or forget its importance almost always regret it.

Determine what kind of event theme your party will have such as if you are having a Halloween party, novelty lights like flameless or LED candles are the best option. As we all know, candles may be the best lighting to give an authentic theme to a haunted house but it is too risky as something might accidentally go up in flames plus you will always have to think of changing the candles when they die out. In the same manner, flameless and LED candles are a great choice as an alternative to real candles as a centrepiece of wedding reception tables, especially if the reception will be done outdoors. With this, you will never have to worry about candles dying out because of the wind. Plus, these are mostly powered by batteries so you do not even have to worry about wiring at all. Also consider the age group of your guests. For instance, parties for kids are normally brightly lit with multi-coloured lights while parties for the elderly may be brightly lit as most of them may suffer poor eyesight. Parties for adults are generally dimly lit to cater to the mood of romance and intimacy for parties such as valentines’ events or speed dating games.

Next, determine how large the venue is, the location and how you plan to produce the electricity for the lighting needed. This will define the amount of lights needed and the cost for it. Outdoor events are best lit with battery powered lamps if you do not want to opt for a lot of wiring and the use of a generator. In the event that you would like to use wired lights or lamps, you will need to make sure that the lights are properly installed for outdoor use and that they are wired in such a way that your guests do not accidentally trip on them. Also consider how many generators you might need for this particular purpose. Indoor lighting is not really much of a problem except in instances where electricity sockets are scarce. More often than not though, event venues are well equipped with many electricity sockets for this particular purpose and for other equipment as well.

Now, consider how much you want to spend for the lighting. LED lights are known to be more costly than the traditional filament Christmas lights but are absolutely justly priced for the tons of benefits you can get out of them. Not only are LED lights three times brighter than tradition filament bulbs but they also last ten times longer and consume ninety percent less power usage. They are also tested to the highest quality standards and are made to be extremely durable. Plus, they produce no heat at all making it safer to use around furnishings and objects that easily burn or are sensitive to heat. LED lights are truly a good investment because if you really think about it, you get to save more because of how long it lasts and how little energy it consumes. They can come wired or battery operated depending on where and how you want to use them.

Lastly, be practical. Ask yourself if it is a good idea to buy wedding lighting that will only be used once. If you do really need them, then make sure you opt for one designed for all seasons and any occasion such as Halloween, Christmas or other parties. If you do need party lighting because you often hold parties in your home, it is best to opt for ones that are designed for durability and are long lasting. Remember, purchasing party lights is also an investment and as with any investment you need to consider the returns you deserve out of it.
